There are few experiences in life that fully pull back the curtain on the true extent of our ability to control our environment and the course of our own lives. One of the most visceral experiences on this short list is pregnancy. Pregnancy is a powerful expression of our limited control. I know this first hand. All of my pregnancies were overrun with uncertainty. My first pregnancy ended in miscarriage…the second was hijacked by a life threatening condition for the baby and the third was visited by a variety of problems, the extent of which were only fully realized when the baby was three months old.
Needless to say, my expectations about what pregnancy would be like and my actual experience of them lived nowhere near each other. As a consequence, the resilience and strength required to manage these pregnanices far outstripped what I thought I’d need.
This is the case for many women. With this podcast, I wanted to capture and record their inspiring stories.
Listen to women describe, in their own words, the mountains they’ve climbed to bring children into the world. Many of these stories are unbelievable in their physical and emotional demands and highlight the courage and grit these women possess.
